Question: What is a moment you'd like to brag about in your music career?
(Musicians who recorded on 'Songs from The Wild')
Jan Emerson: (vocals,
keyboard, assistant producer) "At 14 I sang with a band on
the Ted Mack Original Amateur Hour - television's first"American
Idol". My music career has seen highs and lows since then
- but I believe the biggest thrill is yet to come with bell
the cat!"
Fun facts: Jan toured with show band The Memphis All-Stars and
sang onstage with oldies greats such as Chuck Berry,
the Righteous Brothers, the Shirelles, the Drifters and the Grass
Roots.
Terry Lee:
(associate producer, recording engineer, drummer)"We
are the musicmakers and we are the dreamer of dreams." (Quote
by Willie Wonka) "I love to push the apple G4 right to the
very edge of what it can do. Haven't done my defacto record yet."
Tom Finch: (lead and rhythm guitar, synth-guitar, bass) www.tomfinch.com
This man is a California native and a multi-instrumentalist for
over twenty years. Tom is an inductee into the Gulf Coast Music
Hall of Fame and he has toured throughout the U.S., Europe, Japan
and Canada. He is featured on many albumns with groups such as
Big Brother and the Holding Co., Eyes Open and Jazz Iguanas. He
also leads his own group and has played with such greats as Randy
Vincent, Mel Graves, Steve Smith, Kai Eckhardt, and Yiri Svaboda.
Barry Bison: (keyboards) "I played toy piano (and other keyboards) on
Elmo and Patsy's albumn, "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer".
Working on Songs From The
Wild was
fun."
Pete Hale: (rhythm guitar)
"It was a complete pleasure working on Songs
From The Wild.
As I told Terry if you market the Pie, pie, pie, pie, pie song
(Snuck Up)
in Europe I think it will do well. I lived there for 5 years and
I'm pretty sure that one in particular is a winner. As far as
a one-liner on the question, I have inadvertently offended Neil
Shoon, my guitar hero, by laughing at his motorcycle being tipped
over. Or...Once upon a time I was in a band that did well in Chico,
CA called the Daily Planet."
David Sydney Scott: (sax) www.davidsydneyscott.com "I love playing music for anyone and with anybody, anytime."
Sun Bell: (executive producer, singer, songwriter, rhythm guitar) "The
culmination of all the energy, love, talent, laughter and shear
pleasure of producing this CD is the ultimate brag in my life.
I am so grateful and blessed to be working with musicians who
thrive on giving their best from their hearts. People give me
many compliments about the "daring action" of this CD
process (and the songs themselves) and how it makes them feel
inspired, hopeful and that they look forward to Songs
From The Wild being
available to them. My life is so full of experiences and famous
people it would be hard to pick one memory to highlight. Mike
Varney (Dead Kennedys) , the late, great Jan Tangen, and Dr. Hook
are a few folks I've worked my music with. Maybe someday I'll
take the advice of some and write a book on my life. It would include a lot of characters for sure. Folks who influenced the msuci aspect of me. My Father without knowing it instilled a strength in me to learn the guitar by forbidding me to touch his. My Mother who loved music, playing piano and singing to me from birth gave me my voice. My Grandpa Bell passed on his genes of music, he fiddled his way all over the North East U.S. at barn dances, gathering, parties and events. He and Grandma Bell took me to the Moose Lodge to hear live bands and eat dinners. Until the book comes out
"Let the music play and the light shine on us and all our
relations"! ( 'All our relations', refers to everything
living from the smallest to the largest , in this universe or
beyond). Sun is also interested in doing voice characters ( she
has quite a variety of characters and voice over work.
How we recorded Songs
From The Wild
:
We are proud about the fact that we achieved such quality without
record company expenses. We hope this will be an inspiration to
other independent artists to get their music out there.
This CD was produced digitally on a Mac G4 using the ProTools
Software. Each of the instruments and vocals were recorded through
a 001 DigiDesign. We used a Beyer B1 microphone and a StudioV3
Tube Preamp. The drums wereplayed on Roland SP D11 Electronic
Drums. Using ProTools we played and sang consistently through
each song. Afterwards we did editing or additional takes as needed.
bell the cat's future plans:
Since Sun Bell is a prolific author of songs there are always
new tunes to work with. The recipe for the 2nd CD is already brewing.
This CD is the first time Jan and Sun have worked together as
songwriters on one of the songs. Jan wrote the words and is fine
tuning to her liking the melody that Sun composed. Sun is writing
continously, it won't be long before she has a catalog of original
songs. As an independent publisher/recording artist, Sun looks
forward to others recording her music on their CDs.
bell the cat is also looking for
some "btc tiger angels" that have experience in managing,
booking, security, sound, stage and lighting technology, roadies,
backup singers, assistants in promotion, and folks to connect
with all over this beautiful world so we'll have more friends
everywhere when we tour.
"When real music comes to me - the music of the spheres, the music that surpasses understanding - that has nothing to do with me, cause I'm just the channel. The only joy for me is for it to be given to me, and to transcribe it like a medium...those moments are what I live for." ~ John Lennon
METTA: The Eleven Benefits of loving kindness, People who practice Metta: Sleep peacefully, wake peacefully, dream peaceful dreams, people love them, angels love them, angels protect them, poisons, weapons and fire do not harm them,. Their faces are clear. Their minds are serene. They die unconfused. And when they die, their rebirth is in heavenly realms.
"Ain't it strange, hand of god feel the finger/hand of god I start to whirl; hand of god I don't linger/don't get dizzy/ do not fall now; turn whirl like a dervish/turn god make a move/turn lord, I don't get nervous oh I just move in another dimension; come move in another dimension, come move in another dimension." ~ Patti Smith
"Consciousness expresses itself through creation. This world we live in is the dancer of the creator. Dancers come and go in the twinkling of an eye but the dance lives on. On many occasion when I'm dancing, I've felt touched by something sacred. In those moments, I've felt my spirit soar and become one with everything that exosts. I become the stars and the moon. I become the lover and the loved. I become the victor and the vanquished. I become the master and the slave. I become the singer and the song. I become the knower and the known. I keep on dancing and then, it is the eternal dance of creation. The creator and creation merge into one wholeness of joy. I keep on dancing and dancing.....and dancing, until there is only.....the dance." ~ Michael Jackson
Treat me like an Angel and I'll show you Heaven!
"Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is still the truth." ~ Ghandi
"Women are like spheghetti, all straight til you get them wet." ~ unknown
"Hollywood is a place where they'll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul." "It's all make believe, isn't it?" ~ Marilyn Monroe
THE INVITATION by Oriah Mountain Dreamer, Indian Elder, May 1994 : It doesn't interest me what you do for a living, I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing. It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for yor dreams, for the adventure of being alive. It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon, I want to know if you have touched the center of your sorrow, if you have been opened by life's betrayals, or have become shriveled and closed for fear of further pain. I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it. I want to know if you can be with JOY, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, or to remember the limitations of being human. It doesn't interest me if the story you're telling me is true. I want to know if you disappoint another to be true to yourself, if you can bear the accusation and not betray your own soul. I want to know if you can be faithful, and therefore be trustworthy. I want to know if you can see beauty even when it is not pretty every day, and if you can source your life from ITS presence. I want to know if you can live with failure, yours or mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake, and shout to the silver of the full moon, "YES." It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after a night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done for the children. It doesn't interest me who you are or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back. It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you from inside when all else falls away. I want to know if you can be alone with yourself, and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.
